February 2021: Kids4 Helping the Hungry
Hi friends! In February, Kids4 served hungry people in our community. We had an amazing group of kids and parents turn out to show love and learn about hungry people in our community.
Love: We found out our hearts can love the hungry people around us. We found out that our community cares about hungry people and that one way our community is already helping is through special places called food shelves.
Local: We learned about P.R.I.S.M. in Golden Valley. P.R.I.S.M. is a food shelf that is currently serving double its normal capacity during this time of great need.
Literacy: We read The Last Stop on Market Street by Matt De La Pena and illustrated by Christian Robinson. In this book, a young boy named C.J. serves hungry people with his grandma, discovering a lot of beauty and hope along the bus ride to the soup kitchen. We had a chance to talk about the story and draw some illustrations with Christian Robinson.
Learning through Service: We decorated paper bags for shoppers at P.R.I.S.M. and collected food items to donate. Kids showed their creativity and super star skills with their artwork. Families cared by collecting food items to give--so far, we have donated 270 pounds of food.
Thank you to everyone who participated. You matter and so do your gifts. Together, we make our community strong. Stay tuned for our next project coming in April--Kids4 Serving our Seniors.
